Ever heard the proverb; cleanliness is next to godliness? Well that same principle applies when it comes to maintaining good hair hygiene.
Washing your durag can be easily done in a matter of minutes by hand laundering. All you need is a sink, flowing water and washing detergent. Hand laundering and drying works particularly well with silky durags and prevents the threading that may occur with machine washing and drying.
-
Fill a sink with lukewarm water
Fill a sink around halfway with lukewarm water. Leave room for the water to splash without overflowing during washing.
-
Add the detergent
Pour a tablespoon of washing detergent into the water. Stir the detergent into the water to dissolve, if necessary.
-
Wash the durag
If there are any stains on the that need treating, place a small amount of detergent on the stain, and let set for five minutes. Un-tie the durag, and drop it in the bucket. Agitate the water by gently rubbing the durag while in the water. Let the rag soak for 20 minutes.
-
Rinse, and dry the durag
Remove the durag from the bucket, and rinse under lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze the excess water from the durag and hang it in a warm dry area. Allow the durag to fully dry, ideally overnight before using it to wrap your hair again.
